Well it is a little under two weeks before I leave (Wait... what?) and I thought I would get my blog up and running before I get out of here. I will let most of you off the hook by saying that I will not be horribly offended if you don't keep up with my long winded blog posts (Family; this is required reading.) however, if
you love me you're interested, I'll try and keep this informative, short, and entertaining.
Here is a little synopsis of what is going on:
Where: Cape Coast, Ghana
When: January 5th - April 2nd
Why: Avoiding becoming a real adult I'll be working for an NGO called Hope for Future Generations (HFFG) working with women and children's health and mental health education/outreach. A little more specifically I'll be working with HIV/AIDS prevention, maternity information, child health/survival, and with "Models of Hope" who HIV positive women who become leaders and counselors in their communities. Their website is
here if you're interested.
Who: Well... me. AND I'll be staying with a family while I'm there. All I know thus far is I'll be with a single mom named Doris and her two kids ages 8 and 10. I know nothing else other than she is a good cook (YES!) (
Where Part II: Apparently Doris lives within walking distance of the beach, Cape Coast Castle, and a big market. Mom and Dad found this really cool
video of a cabby driving around what will actually likely be my neighborhood.)
So at the moment I'm just spending time with some of the people I'm going to miss a whole lot, enjoying the holidays while in a mildly self-delusional state regarding my level of preparedness, and currently seriously considering breakfast. Wish me luck!
